This page is used to save and restore your K3's configuration data, and to make changes to that configuration.
Buttons on this page are enabled only when the K3 Utility has established communications with your K3.
The RF Gain Calibration and Transmitter Gain Calibration buttons have been moved to the Calibration tab page
The K3 has a number of configuration menu items that are reset to their default values during the "Parameter Initialization" process (EE INIT) described in the Troubleshooting section of the Elecraft K3 Owner's Manual. You may find it convenient to save the original configuration settings before performing this procedure and then restore the configuration settings after Parameter Initialization.
Click to show a "Save As" dialog where you may provide the name of a new file that will receive K3 configuration data. A suggested file name is derived from the date and time, but you may overtype this with any valid file name. Click "Save" to begin saving configuration data from your K3.
This process takes from 30 seconds to a couple of minutes, depending on the K3's CONFIG:RS-232 speed setting.
The K3 Utility creates a folder intended for K3 configuration files, located in the current users's Application Data folder.
You may use this folder, or use the Save As dialog to navigate to a different folder for saving configuration files.
General configuration parameters, which include option module enables, crystal filter setups, transmit calibration data, and other menu settings; and control settings (last-used selections for switches, knobs, VFOs, etc.)
These settings are not saved, and they are not disturbed by the Parameter Initialization procedure (EE INIT):
Click to show a File Open dialog. Select the configuration file of your choice and click "Open". Your K3's configuration will be restored from the file you have selected.
This process takes from 30 seconds to a couple of minutes, depending on the K3's CONFIG:RS-232 speed setting.
Do not modify the configuration file between Save and Restore, or Restore may fail. If you wish to create a configuration file that contains a different configuration, use the K3's CONFIG menu to make changes, and then use Save K3 Configuration As to save the new configuration.
Click to show the Crystal Filter Configuration dialog, used to view or set up the crystal roofing filters in your K3.
Click to start the Edit CW Memories dialog to view and change the contents of the K3's CW message memories
Click to show a "Power On Banner" dialog where you may provide a short (22-character) message that will be displayed on the K3 display during its power-up sequence.
Click to set the K3's date and time from your personal computer's time of day clock.
You may wish to first set your personal computer's clock from an authoritative time source such as the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Internet Time Service. See Configuring Windows 2000 and Windows XP to use NIST Time Servers for guidance. (You may need to install software such as the Adobe Reader to view PDF files.)
There is an Internet Time program built in to Windows 2000 and above. There are also a large number of other Internet Time Service client programs available. See the "Software and Instructions" section of Set Your Computer Clock Via the Internet.
